Description
Nederlands: Avro Lancaster B 1 (s/n R5868) PO-S in het RAF Museum, Hendon, London. Dit toestel werd besteld als Manchester, maar gebouwd als Lancaster in 1942 en werd geleverd aan 83 Squadron op RAF Scampton. Ze vloog 68 missies bij de eenheid voordat ze werd overgeplaatst naar 467 Squadron op RAF Bottesford. Bij deze eenheid vloog ze nog eens 71 missies, wat haar totaal op 139 actieve missies bracht. Daarna was ze betrokken bij “Operatie Exodus”, de repatriëring van krijgsgevangenen, tot eind mei 1945.
English: Avro Lancaster B 1 (s/n R5868) PO-S at the RAF Museum, Hendon, London.This aircraft was ordered as a Manchester, but built as a Lancaster in 1942 and was delivered to 83 Squadron at RAF Scampton. She flew 68 missions with the unit before transferring to 467 Squadron at RAF Bottesford. With this unit she flew another 71 missions, making her total 139 active missions. She was then involved in '‘Operation Exodus'’, the repatriation of PoWs, until the end of May 1945.
