| Description | The Travellers Cub is one of London's oldest gentlemen's clubs. It was founded in 1819. The club moved to the current location at 106 Pall Mall in 1832. This area has beed called "clubland." The building was designed by Sir Charles Barry, who was later the achitect of the rebuilt Houses of Parliament. It was modeled after a renaissance palace, possibly one in Florence. One of the requirements for membership was that you had to have traveled at least 500 miles (800 km) from London. I wonder if it is coincidence that all of Italy is beyond the 500 mile target. |
