Summary
[edit]DescriptionLoch Derry - geograph.org.uk - 809721.jpg |
English: Loch Derry. The green hill on the far side of the loch, just left of centre, is called Fell of Eldrig of Liberland. In the middle ages a leper colony was situated there (Liberland = leperland), and lepers would be brought up onto the moors by the monks of Glenluce Abbey. Before leaving they received the last rites, and on the way to Liberland they crossed the Mulniegarroch or Purgatory Burn 457, so called because once across there was no return. A little further on they were allowed to wash at the Wells of the Rees 607048 whose waters were reputed to have healing properties. |
