Image title | Staff Sergeant David Trosper, a 493rd AMU weapons load team chief, moves an AIM-7M "Sparrow" missile into position on a "Jammer" weapons loader during the final week of firing the weapon at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida May 9, 2006. This week marks the final chapter for the AIM-7 missile shot by the U. S. Air Force. The "Sparrow" became operational in 1953 and is credited with over 70 kills in air-to-air combat since then. The 493rd Fighter Squadron is currently TDY from Lakenheath Air Base, United Kingdom to participate in the Weapon Systems Evaluation Program (WSEP) designed to give pilots, maintainers and weapons loaders experience with combat ready weapons.
