Summary
[edit]DescriptionLivingston Thompson locomotive at the National Railway Museum - August 2018 - 01.jpg |
English: Built in 1886, ‘Livingston Thompson’ was the Festiniog Railway’s fourth Double Fairlie and was the second to be built at their own Boston Lodge works. Withdrawn from service in 1971, the original plan was to use some parts, including bogies, in the construction of a new shape Double Fairlie at Boston Lodge and then scarp the rest. F.R. staff and volunteers, somewhat unhappy at the potential destruction of one of only two surviving original Double Fairlies, started an appeal to save her and eventually only her bogies were re-used. In 1988 she was cosmetically restored and fitted with unserviceable bogies. Since then she has been on display in the Great Hall at the National Railway Museum, York, where she acts as free advertising for the Festiniog Railway. |
