I encountered this lithified millipede specimen while browsing Smithsonian fossil drawers years ago. Unfortunately, there was no accompanying information. If I had to guess, this looks like a modern/Holocene millipede that's been coated with and/or replaced by calcium carbonate, possibly in a cave setting.

If it is Holocene in age, it's not a fossil - it's a subfossil. Some paleontologists assert that any object studied by a paleontologist is a fossil, simple as that. That's beyond silly. I can study a teddy bear - that doesn't make it a fossil. The traditional definition of fossil is just fine - it has to be Pleistocene in age or older.
