Eléments de la décoration intérieure du mausolée. Le Gour Emir est le mausolée de Tamerlan, dont la République d'Ouzbékistan (d'après l'URSS), a fait un symbole de grandeur et d'indépendance. Les statues de Tamerlan, un conquérant sanguinaire et impérialiste, dans la lignée de Gengis Khan, ont ainsi remplacé celles de Lénine ou de Staline sur toutes les grandes places des cités. Le mausolée Gour Emir) a été construit en 1401 par le petit-fils de Tamerlan, qui y est enterré comme son grand-père et d'autres membres de la famille timouride. Il est somptueusement décoré. A l'origine, le mausolée comprenait également une madrasa (école coranique) et une khanaka (résidence des derviches) situées autour d'une cour centrale. Seul le portail et le mausolée de l'ensemble existent encore. Ils ont été restaurés et l'environnement a été dégagé des habitations secondaires. Le portail est l'oeuvre d'un persan Mohamed, fils de Mahmoud, ramené de force de Perse par Tamerlan à la suite de ses conquêtes comme la plupart des architectes et artisans qui ont construit Samarcande. Le style architectural des monuments de Samarcande est de fait très voisin de celui des grands monuments perses, avec néanmoins des caractéristiques esthétiques régionales à Samarcande, Boukhara ou Khiva. |
