Description
Français : Axe Paris-Clermont au niveau de l’ancienne gare de Randan, Puy de Dôme.

Visibles sur les supports caténaire des mirlitons SNCF, indiquant au mécanicien qu'il s'apprête à aborder un signal à visibilité réduite. La double voie amorce en effet une courbe, où se trouvent plusieurs obstacles: passage à niveau suivi d'une entrée de tunnel.

Mise en service en 1931, c’est-à-dire bien après l’ouverture de l’artère historique via Gannat, Allier, en 1855, la section de Vichy est électrifiée en 1989-90. Son tracé, relativement sinueux, a bridé jusqu’à une époque récente la vitesse en ligne, 130 km/h pour les circulations les plus rapides. Des travaux menés en 2015-2016, ont permis de gagner quelques minutes sur cette portion d’itinéraire.

On est malgré tout loin des 200 km/h pratiqués sur d’autres segments de la relation, où les passages à niveaux ont été démantelés.

Et Clermont demeure la dernière grande métropole de province, a ne pas être accessible par TGV. La meilleure offre étant constituée des Intercités au départ de Paris-Bercy...
