Description
English: The view through the gun portal of one the fortified fighting positions that surround Combat Outpost Herrera Dec. 3. COP Herrera is presently manned by soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 279th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Task Force Creek. It sits at 8,700 feet above sea level, about five miles from the border of Pakistan, and is surrounded by mountain ranges and small villages like the one seen here, Ali Khel. Because of the terrain and the heavy Taliban presence in the area it is very difficult to reach by land, so helicopters are its life line.
