ng-continued ill-health disabled him from sending any large work to the Academy,where he exhibited drawings only—three in water-colours— TheMound of the City of Old Sarum, Stoke Pogis Church, thescene of Grays elegy, An Interior of a Church, also anillustration of the elegy,* and a large drawing in lead pencil, AStudy of Trees made in the grounds of Charles Holford, Esq.,at Hampstead. I returned to England in time to see thisexhibition. Charlotte Street, 7^^ Mr. George Constable. -July 2nd. Your prompt and very kind reply to my dear boy makes usquite happy; he is exceedingly impatient to be with you, and tobe introduced to his young friend. I am sorry that a meetingof the Artists General Benevolent fund, of which I am a Vice-President, will take place on Monday evening; it is for the reliefof cases, many of which are of my own recommendation, and ifI am not present it may be materially to their disadvantage; • These beautiful drawings of the cliurch were purchased by Mr. Rogers.

I am brushing up my WaterlooBridge, and shall make it look something before I have donewith it. The difficulty is to find a subject fit for the largest of mysizes. I will talk to you about one, either a canal or a rural affair,or a wood or a harvest scene; which, I know not, but 1 couldhardly choose amiss ; certainly not if, as Wilkie says, it could bepainted well.* I rejoice to hear such a good account of yourhealth.
