These 6300 malesare divided by ages in the following manner :— The last column, giving the yearly mean,is obtained by dividing the proportionatefigures by the number of years which theycover. Thus the proi)ortionate figures forages 10-15, as representing 5 years, aredivided by 5, giving 387 as the mean;similarly, for 25-35, covering 10 years, thefigures are divided by 10, giving 163*6 asthe mean number. The numbers at theditlerent age-periods in each Trade-sectionor Group are brought to the same scale, andthe charts drawn in accordance with themean figures, as is shown by the indicatingpoints of the curves being placed in thecentre of each age-period. Ages- Proportion per 10,000 oftotol aged 10-80. Among engineers we find civil engineers,mininr/ engineers, marine engineers, raihccn/ engineers,electrical engineers, and hydraulic .engineers. There isalso the contractors engineer who advises contractors,and carries out for them engineeinng Avork that has beendesigned by others. Among architects and among builders we find the sametendency towaids specialization, and those with a repu-tation for theatres, for churches, for municipal buildings,town halls or libraries, for banks or city othcos, may bementioned as instances. While the builder carries out plans, drawn by theai^chitect in accordance with his own artistic sense and inobedience to established rules of construction; the architectturns to the engineer when the structure demands a specialknowledge of applied science dealing with stresses andstlifelabourpeople05boot
