English: "31 October 1944
Dear Dad: Well here I am back where your mail can reach me in one day-providing it is air mail. I don’t know whether my luck is good or bad. I managed to see some fair action since I joined the ship, but unfortunately we are not with the “Bull” so we missed the really big one that is filling the papers now. I have a fair idea that our boss will take us to the doorstep of Tokyo on our next move. Here’s hoping." From the Edward L.
