Scientific Classification: Kingdom: Animalia; Phylum: Chordata; Class: Aves; Order: Ciconiiformes; Family: Phoenicopteridae; Genus: Phoeniconaias; Genus species: Phoeniconaias minor. Animal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 80-105 cm; Identification: The lesser flamingo has a deep red bill with a black tip. Its eyes are dark red and the facial skin is bare. Its plumage is bright pink, and it may have a crimson breast. The flight feathers are black; Habitat: Lakes, coastal lagoons, tidal mudflats; Diet: Herbivore: algae; Reproduction: Nests consist of a low platform of dirt, built amongst a breeding colony. Females lay a single egg; Behavior: Lesser flamingos feed by walking through shallow water and skimming the surface with their bills; Status: No special status.
