LE PAYS DE FRANCE (p. 6) LES DISTRACTIONS DE NOS TROUPIERS

Tous les soldats de la compagnie s'amusent de la gentillesse du marcassin ; il reconnaît parfaitement la voix de celui qui s'occupe plus particulièrement de lui et le suit volontiers ; il est vrai que les jeunes sangliers s'apprivoisent assez facilement tout en gardant des allures brusques et peu familières ; aucun des hommes ne veut penser qu'il ferait un excellent rôti.

Cette fois nous présentons un marcassin que nos troupiers s'ingénient à apprivoiser ; le jeune sanglier a été pris dans la forêt de Hesse, dans la Meuse ; il est entouré de soins ; on lui a donné le nom de « Guillaume » et chaque fois qu'on lui porte du lait on ne manque jamais de lui dire : « Bois, Guillaume ; voilà du sang ! ».

LE PAYS DE FRANCE (p. 6) THE AMUSEMENTS OF OUR SOLDIERS

All the soldiers of the company are amused by the kindness of the marcassin; it recognizes perfectly the voice of the one who is more particularly concerned with it and follows it willingly; it is true that the young boars are easily tamed while keeping their brusque and unfamiliar gait; none of the men wants to think that it would make an excellent roast.

This time we present a wild boar that our troopers are doing their best to tame; the young boar has been caught in the forest of Hesse, in the Meuse; he is surrounded by care; he has been given the name of "Guillaume" and each time we bring him milk we never fail to say to him: "Drink, Guillaume; here is some blood!"
