Description
Español: Lepanthes manabina es una orquídea suramericana que habita los bosques de niebla de Colombia y Ecuador. Tiene hábito epífito: crece exclusivamente sobre árboles donde aprovecha la niebla y la humedad de los musgos para obtener agua y nutrientes y la corteza de los árboles para aferrarse. Colombia enseña gran diversidad de especies del género Lepanthes: particularmente en el departamento de Antioquia, al norte de los Andes, habitan 119 de estas orquídeas y muchas de ellas son endémicas. Las orquídeas Lepanthes son muy llamativas por sus pequeñísimas flores de diverso colorido. A pesar de su ínfimo tamaño (5mm x 10mm), Lepanthes manabina sorprendentemente exhibe una flor relativamente grande cuando es comparada con otras especies cercanas. La concavidad y el plegamiento de sus hojas, las tonalidades verdes, el colorido de su flor y las venaciones púrpuras resaltan la belleza de esta orquídea andina. Admirar la belleza es el primer paso para conservar estas hermosas plantas.
