Description

Les origines de l'abbaye du Mont-Saint-Michel remontent au début du VIIIe siècle.

L'archange saint Michel, étant apparu à Aubert, évêque d'Avranches, celui-ci fonda sur le mont un oratoire. Une abbaye carolingienne lui succéda. Au Moyen Âge, une église est bâtie au sommet du rocher, puis une abbaye gothique. La flèche date de 1897.

Le site, lieu de pèlerinage depuis plus de mille ans, est classé au patrimoine mondial.
