Summary
[edit]DescriptionLate tertiary yaws saber shin.jpg |
English: Created in 1979, this photograph depicts what is known as a tibial sabre deformity, exhibited by this 45yr-old female patient from the Ivory Coast, which resulted from a late tertiary yaws infection. This patient’s Venereal Disease Research Laboratory test, or VDRL, produced a positive result of 1:16, and was accompanied by the microhemagglutination assay (MHA-TP) test, which was also reactive, or positive. See PHIL 3834, for a view of this patient's accompanying craniofacial pathology. A saber shin deformity is an abnormality of the tibia characterized by marked anterior bowing of the lower leg. This defect may be seen in some children with congenital syphilis, and patients with yaws. |
