Title |
Late medieval or post-medieval buckle |
||
Description |
English: Incomplete cast copper alloy late medieval or post-medieval buckle. The buckle is double oval in plan. The sides of the frame are bevelled. The central bar is subcircular in section. The buckle is very worn and abraded. The pin is entirely missing. None of the original surface survives and it now has a light green patina with significant patches of bright green corrosion product. The buckle is 26.5mm long, 20.26mm wide, 3.6mm thick and weighs 2.75g. Examples of late medieval double frame buckles can be see in Egan and Pritchard, 1991, Dress Accessories page 88, post-medieval examples in Cuddeford, 2001, Identifying Buckles, page 26, |
