Title
Late medieval kidney shaped buckle
Description
English: Complete cast copper alloy single loop kidney shaped buckle. The loop is kidney shaped in plan and subcircular in section. The pin bar is not narrowed or offset. The buckle is plain with none of the original surface surviving. Exposed surfaces are light green. The crude, flat pin with broad triangular point survives intact and is simply curled around the pin bar. It is in a similar condition to the rest of the buckle. The buckle is 24.92mm long, 11.36mm wide and weighs 1.78g. The pin is 12.48mm long. A similar pin is recorded under LIN666FD6 and is dated from 1450-1550. A more robust example is shown in Margeson, 1993, Norwich Households, number 147, which is from a context dated 1400-1600.
