Title
Late medieval/early post-medieval double-looped annular buckle
Description
English: A cast copper-alloy double-looped annular buckle with moulded floral decoration, incomplete is as much as it is missing its pin. The buckle is broadly in the form of a five-petalled flower, with the petals irregular sizes. The pin bar is central and slightly depressed in its centre. Dark orange stains on the pin bar and a corresponding part of the frame suggest that the pin would have been made of iron. The lower surface of the artefact is flat and plain; on the moulded upper surface there is some faint decoration in the form of transverse incisions. Similar buckles can be found illustrated in Whitehead (1996, 47; refs. 272-274) and Margeson (1993, 29; ref. 157), where they are dated to the late medieval/early post-medieval periods. This buckle is now a dull mid-green colour.
