Title
Late Roman copper alloy military buckle
Description
English: Copper alloy dolphin buckle, either Hawkes and Dunning Type Ia or IIC. The buckle is D-shaped and has a pair of confronted dolphin heads, both with their mouths open with a lozenge shaped cell between. Both dophins have a high crest. The eyes are depicted by recessed circular dots, and the neck of the dolphins are both decorated with two incised crosses with two incised transverse lines to the left, dividing the crosses and to the right. The bar is narrowed and has two moulded rectangular protrusions at the bottom. The bar inside the protrusions is stepped, much like the buckle bars of Type IIC
