Title
Late Early-Medieval Bridle cheekpiece
Description
English: An incomplete copper-alloy 11th century Anglo-Scandinavian mount, consisting of an openwork plate decorated in the Late Viking Ringerike style and broken at one end. It measures 48.31x35.07x2.40mm and weighs 17.75g.

The plate is roughly triangular in shape, with the upper horizontal edge broken. The plate depicts two creatures facing inwards with lozenge-shaped eyes along the edges with two holes beneath them. There is another hole at the point between them. The area at the centre of the plate is plain and undecorated.

Late Viking Ringerike style was current during the reign of Cnut (1014-42) and may have had a longer life in England (Williams 2007 p.1).
