English: This view of LE&N 209 was taken at Port Dover, Ontario sometime between 1915 and 1921. In 1921, this car was renumbered 733 and shortly thereafter, 797. Of interest is the LE&N logo over the left end window as well as the air whistle which the cars were originally equipped with.
Second from the left is messenger Benny Whittington, on the step is conductor Bill Wrigley with Motorman Rufus Mersil next to him. The other gentlemen are not identified on the back of the photograph. The photo was given to me back in 1969 by the wife of a former CP Electric Lines baggageman/messenger. |
Description |
English: Five crewmen on the Lake Erie and Northern Railway pose for this photograph taken at Port Dover, Ontario, Canada circa 1918. From left to right, the second man from the left is the messenger Benny Whittington. Standing on the steps of the car is conductor Bill Wrigley; next to him is motorman Rufus Mersil. The rail car behind them is a self-propelled electric interurban combine car, Lake Erie and Northern #209, which was manufactured by the Preston Car Company in December 1915. |
