DescriptionLafonMap1816.jpg |
Plan of the City and Enrirons of New Orleans, taken from actual Survey by Barthelemy Lafon. Map shows the city at the time. The city is marked into 8 divisions of Faubourgs. What is now known as the "French Quarter" is marked IV. I, II, and III are all now considered parts of Faubourg Marigny. V and VI, St. Mary & Annunciation, became the "American Quarter". VII is Faubourg Claude Treme, VIII St. John or Esplanade Ridge at the head of Bayou St. John.
Note Lafon deliniates the route of the proposed (never built) Canal extending from the Carondelet Canal Basin to the Mississippi along Canal Street.
