Description

The numerous red beetles swarming on this tree are lady bugs in the crater of Capulin Volcano in New Mexico. Capulin Volcano is a cinder cone - a relatively small, steep-sided volcano composed of loose igneous debris (dominantly scoria and vesicular basalt).

Classification: Animalia, Arthropoda, Hexapoda, Insecta, Coleoptera, Coccinellidae

Locality: Capulin Volcano National Monument, northeastern New Mexico, USA
