[edit]DescriptionLady Louise's Bridge, Lismore, Co. Waterford (35138298572).jpg |
Today we have a very pleasant landscape from Waterford. I know Lismore is famous for the Munster Blackwater, but this river seems far too small to be it? All details on Lady Louise will also be very welcome. With thanks especially to [/photos/jhbrink/ Jan Hilbrand Brink], [/photos/bernardhealy/ Bernard Healy] and [/photos/beachcomberaustralia/ beachcomberaustralia] we've learned that Lady Louisa Caroline Cavendish (1835-1907) was the eldest daughter of the 7th Duke of Devonshire, whose family had acquired Lismore Castle in the 18th century. Lady Louisa apparently took over the household at a young age, and was responsible for laying out a number of walks around the demesne - clearly including the one that crossed this footbridge. [/photos/91549360@N03/ O Mac] and [/photos/gnmcauley/ Niall McAuley] have pinpointed it to within a mile or so of Lismore Castle - although now only the stone or concrete abutments remain...
