Description

Dans les années qui viennent, il est prévu que le musée, actuellement hébergé dans l'ancienne caserne, soit définitivement installé dans l'hôtel du gouverneur (la Résidence) construit sur "le Rocher" à l'emplacement du palais du sultan Andriantsouly qui a vendu Mayotte à la France en 1841.

L'hôtel du gouverneur, avec ses vantaux et sa structure métallique est un vestige de l'époque coloniale.

L'édifice appartient au conseil départemental, il est actuellement désaffecté, notamment en raison de la présence de termites qui ont fortement fragilisé les parties en bois. Le bâtiment est en attente de restauration.
