Bureau de travail de l'armateur à l'entresol

Le commerce triangulaire a, semble-t-il, duré une cinquantaine d'années au Havre, moins de temps qu'à Nantes mais il a bel et bien enrichi de nombreux grands bourgeois de la ville. Selon le guide, seuls les plus puissants armateurs du Havre ont pratiqué ce type de commerce qui nécessitait des investissements financiers très importants.

La Maison de l'Armateur, par son architecture du XVIIIe siècle, sa composition intérieure organisée autour d'un puits de lumière central, est un musée emblématique de l'histoire havraise. Quelques pièces sont traitées à la manière de salles d’exposition. Les autres sont les appartements, les cabinets de curiosité, la bibliothèque ou le cabinet de travail d’un riche négociant Havrais....
