Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The adult video and sex shop LSD in the building that once housed the photography retailer Wegert Foto at Potsdamer Straße 124-126. Adult entertainment, and prostitution have a more than 125 year old tradition in northern Schöneberg. This "adult entertainment" industry was among other things the cradle of the LGBTIQ+ culture(s). In the present day the venues that cater to LGBTIQ+ (primarily gay male) clientele are concentrated on the south-west of Nollendorfplatz where the red-light district character of the neighborhood has all but disappeared. To the north-east of Nollendorfplatz however, (cis* and trans* female) street prostitution is as pervasive as ever. Bourgeois assimilation of the sex-work profession analogous to the assimilation of until recently similarly frowned upon gay men (no matter whether sex-worker or government minister) remains utopian. On the "Potse", as the general area is called, the contradiction becomes visible between the interests of local merchants and property owners, and the reality of a market that doesn't officially exist.
