DescriptionLHD 4 USS Boxer at Darwin's Stokes Hill Wharf in August 1997 (21).jpg | USS Boxer stopped off in Darwin in August 1997 when homeward bound after a six month deployment. Boxer is a Wasp Class amphibious assault ship of 40,722 tons and carries a Navy crew of 1,100 and a Marine contingent of 1,900 personnel. Pre 911 the ship was open to visitors and very little was closed to the public. The marines were prepared to explain the finer points of their machine guns to the local Darwin girls. An AH1 Huey Cobra is in the background. | ||
