Title
LEIC-00AAB2: Roman nail cleaner
Description
English: A Roman copper alloy incomplete nail cleaner. It has a circular suspension loop set at a right angle to the blade, which contains traces of iron corrosion product. Below this is short handle with bead, reel and spool mouldings. The blade is leaf-shaped and its tip is missing. A very similar example was found at Lion Walk, Colchester (Crummy 1983, 58, 1872). Crummy (ibid.) suggests that this is a developed form that was in use from the mid to late 1st century, probably continuing into the 2nd century.
