Summary
[edit]DescriptionL-tectonite 25.jpg |
English: L-tectonite (gneissic L-tectonite; L-tectonite gneiss)
“Tectonite” is a term used by structural geologists to refer to any rock that has been subjected to solid-state flow. Tectonites show pervasive foliation (crystals or grains are aligned into ~parallel sheets) and/or lineation (elongated crystals or grains are aligned). Most tectonites are “LS-tectonites” - rocks that show both foliation and lineation. "L-tectonites" have lineation, but not foliation - they form by significant stretching (extension). The rock surface seen here is equivalent to "C" in the three-dimensional line drawing of an L-tectonite seen here: www.flickr.com/photos/jsjgeology/16940463771 . |
