La maison-musée Salvador Dali à Portlligat en Catalogne près de Cadaqués Dali considérait l'atelier comme l'espace le plus important de sa maison. Cette pièce est éclairée par deux fenêtres : l'une donne sur la baie de Portlligat, l'autre sur les collines, au nord. A gauche, se trouve un banc provençal d'où il examinait ses oeuvres en cours de réalisation. Au centre et à droite, les sièges que le peintre utilisait pour peindre. A droite, se trouve un cadre métallique sur lequel Dali installait les toiles de grandes dimensions. Une fente dans le sol de l'atelier permettait de descendre le cadre et la toile pour en peindre les différentes parties. Au centre, sur le chevalet traditionnel se trouve une ébauche d'ange peinte sur bois.
L’actuelle Maison-musée de Portlligat a été la seule résidence stable de Salvador Dalí; l'endroit où il a vécu et travaillé régulièrement jusqu'à la mort de Gala, en 1982, date à laquelle il s'est installé au Château de Púbol. En 1930, séduit par le paysage, la lumière et l'isolement des lieux, Salvador Dalí s'était installé dans une petite maisonnette de pêcheurs de Portlligat. À partir de cette construction initiale, il créa peu à peu, quarante années durant, une maison, la sienne, qu'il définissait "comme une véritable structure biologique, [...].
