Description

Au centre de ce bassin appelé Anup Talao, se trouve une plate-forme, où se tenaient des musiciens. Quatre passerelles permettent d'accéder à la plateforme (2 sont visibles sur la photo). Fatehpur SikrI (hindi : फतेहपुर सीकरी) dans l'État de l'Uttar Pradesh en Inde, fut la capitale impériale de l'Empire moghol de 1571 à 1584. Construite par l'empereur Akbar, parfaitement conservée depuis son abandon, elle est un témoignage remarquable de l'architecture indienne du XVIe siècle.

Fatehpur-Sikrī, la « ville de la victoire », constitue un ensemble architectural homogène avec de nombreux monuments et temples, dont une des plus grandes mosquées de l'Inde, Jama Masjid. En 1585, Akbar abandonna Fatehpur Sikri pour plusieurs raisons : le manque d'eau et la nécessité de se rapprocher des foyers d'insurrection des tribus afghanes, il choisit une nouvelle capitale, Lahore. Seule une petite partie de la ville (celle dans laquelle se concentrent les grands édifices) a pu être à ce jour étudiée et ouverte au public. Construits en grès rouge, les bâtiments forment un groupe homogène, même si leur style, fondé sur des emprunts aux traditions hindoues, perses et indo-musulmanes, est manifestement éclectique.
