Summary

[edit]
Description This area of Sonoran Desert, like that to the southwest around the Phoenix area, harbors an abundance of red brome in the understory. This is ecologically analogous to cheatgrass (Bromus tectorum) in the sagebrush steppe, where the abundance of an exotic annual grass in native vegetation has the ability to transform it after burning. Fortunately, not much of the vegetation in this regions appears to have experienced burns in recent history.
