Description
English: Kirkjukórið Ljómur is a Faroese choir from Suðuroy, based in the village Vágur. The members come from Vágur, Porkeri, Tvøroyri, Sumba and other villages in Suðuroy. This photo was taken at the Memorial Square (Minnisvarðin) in Vágur at the Grækarsimessa, which is the celebration of the return of the oystercatcher, which is the national bird of the Faroe Islands. Grækarismessa is on 12 March, but sometimes the celebration is held in the nearest weekend in stead. Ljómur was founded in 1939 by Edith Dahl and others.
Føroyskt: Kirkjukórið Ljómur varð stovnað í 1939, tað vóru Edith Dahl og onnur ið stovnaðu kórið. Limirnir í kórinum koma ymsastaðni úr Suðuroynni. Kórið er knýtt at Vágs Kirkju men syngur eisini til onnur høvið, eitt nú til ymisk mentanartiltøk ella til høgtíðir, sum t.d. á Jóansøku, á Grækarismessu, Flaggdagin og líknandi.
