Description

Det tyske fangeskipet ”Westfalen” hadde da det ble senket på vei mellom Norge og Tyskland ca. 50 norske fanger om bord. 35 av de omkomne nordmenn ble ført på marinefartøyet ”Ven” til Gøteborg, hvor kistene ble anbragt i Domkirken. Her fant det sted en minnehøytidelighet, og kirken var fylt til siste plass. Tilstede var norske og svenske myndigheter samt representanter for allierte og nøytrale konsulater. Mens den gripende høytidelighet fant sted, sto 6 unge nordmenn med norske flagg ved bårene. Mange slektninger og pårørende av de omkomne var kommet til stede fra forskjellige kanter av Sverige, og til alle bårer var det blomster og kranser fra slekt og venner i Sverige. The bodies of 35 of the 45 Norwegians who lost their lives were brought to the Cathedral at Göteborg on the 14th of September, 1944, and buried with full military honours. I 1943 ble det opprettet et prestekontor ved Legasjonen i Stockholm som i mars 1945 hadde 16 norske prester i arbeid. (...)
