English: The famous Kiranteshwar Mahadev Temple is located on the right side of the hill on the right side of the road from Pashupati Temple in Kathmandu to Guhyeshwari via Gaurighat. There is a wall around the temple. In the middle is the open sky, the temple of Kirateshwar Mahadev. This Kirateswarup Shivling has some tilt. This artistic style Shivaling looks different in shape when viewed from all sides. Devotees bathe in Gaurighat throughout the month of January and pay homage to Kiranteshwar Mahadev. In the month of January, there is a long line of devotees living in this Gaurighat, reciting the Swasthani Brat Katha, which is recited from house to house. Since Kirateshwar Mahadev is also mentioned in the Swasthani Brat Katha, devotees flock here.
In the Kandapuran glacier, it is described that one can attain Shivalok by bathing in Magh and worshiping Kiranteshwar. This Kiranteshwar Mahadev was established by the Kirantkalin king Yalambar. That is why it is called Kirateshwar Mahadev. Buddhists also visit this temple. There are also idols of small gods in this temple. There are Nandi, Trishul, Damru etc. near Kirateshwar Ling while there is a black trishul above the Shivalinga which is decorated with weeds. Situated in the middle of the greenery of hill, this temple of Kirateshwar Mahadev is located in a very peaceful environment, from where one can also see the natural scenery. |
