| Description | One of the stores which started the development at the top end of the High Street was Pattinsons which was built ad opened in 1902. The windows were packed with goods from “a choice selection of blouses” with “noted value in gloves, hosiery, vests, etc.” to “costumes and skirts”. The terraced houses next door have not yet been converted into shops (Caldwell & Powell) and the Evangelical Church can been seen. Formerly the Dovercourt Mission Hall part of Bagshaw’s development, it was built in 1864 at a cost of £2500, to seat up to 700 people and to replace smaller buildings in Orwell Terrace. |
