Español: La visión de la alta y estrecha torre que se eleva elegantemente sobre las murallas de la Ciudad Vieja resulta casi tan familiar como la imagen de la Cúpula de la Roca. Sin embargo, a pesar de su nombre, la Ciudadela no tiene que ver con el Rey David (el fundador de la ciudad), ya que fue construida como una fortaleza en el siglo I a.d.C. por Herodes el Grande. Ha sido parte de la estructura defensiva de la ciudad durante más de 2.000 años. Los restos que permanecen en pie hoy en día pertenecen en su mayoría a la Edad Media. El magnífico Museo de Historia de Jerusalén, que recrea vívidamente la historia de la ciudad desde su fundación, se levanta aquí. La torre más alta de la ciudadela, la de Phasael, ofrece unas impresionantes vistas panorámicas de la Ciudad Vieja. La entrada principal se encuentra junto a la Puerta de Jaffa
