Summary
[edit]DescriptionKing Edward VII Post Box (5983920698).jpg |
English: An old post box outside the post office at the University of Cape Town, South Africa.
As far as I can see it is a King Edward VII mail box which was built by Andrew Handyside of Derby, London. The royal crest has a VII and the word Handyside can be seen at the base of the box. It was probably built built between 1901-1910 although I can't confirm this nor do I know the history of how it ended up at UCT. Looking on the internet, it appears that the base should be painted black and it should be red and not the faded orange. It still is used by the post office as I posted a letter and it was delivered!
