Summary
[edit]DescriptionKilcluney Parish Hall, Coolmillish Road - geograph.org.uk - 706969.jpg |
English: Kilcluney Parish Hall, Coolmillish Road Built in the 1880's, you can drive past "the abbey" today without noticing it. From the outside it looks like a modern church hall, but the whole inside is beautifully carved out of European Fir. It was an old building in the middle of the country and it was taken down bit by bit; exterior walls were built and the old building was erected inside! The Rev. Henry Hutchings, whose favourite pastime was wood carving, was the founder and financed the whole project. His desire to conduct worship in a more "high church" manner would not have been accepted by the established church, so the only way round this was to build his own place of worship. It is almost certain "The Abbey" was never consecrated. It had a robed choir that became known locally as "Hutchings Angels". |
