Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Kerala’s Idukki district is home to the beautiful hill-station of Munnar. An erstwhile summer resort to the British, the forested hills are home to the three rivers of Mattupetti, Nallathanni and Periavaru. A tea-scented daydream, Munnar’s plantations are swarmed with tourists throughout the year. Kerala’s illustrious Eravikulam National Park is situated in Munnar and is home to the endangered species of the Nilgiri Tahr. In fact, the wildlife of this Kerala town, boasting of the lion-tailed macaque and elephant herds, is a major contributing factor to Munnar’s sightseeing. With temperatures ranging from zero degrees to twenty-eight degrees celsius, Munnar’s terrains are scattered with waterfalls, with the most beautiful of them being the Atukkad Waterfalls. Mattupetty’s dam and dairy farm are one of the best places to visit in Munnar. In Munnar’s Nullatanni estate, lies the tea museum which is a must-visit. And if you have time, incorporate a leisurely walk through the Marayoor Sandalwood Forests, that lies to the north of Munnar. Some things to do in Munnar are tree house stay, tea estate walks, rock climbing, mountain biking, camping and trekking to name a few. Most of the Southern Indian wild animals and birds are found in Munnar and surroundings. ... Wildlife in Munnar is enriched with Panther, tigers, Gaur, Elephant, Sambar, Giant squirrel, champak squirrel, Spotted deer and so on that provides an exciting experience.
