Description
English: Keldgate, East End from south-east, 1900

Could these people be on their way to Sunday service at Beverley Minster in 1900?
Keldgate, the street pictured here, was recorded as early as 1250 and is one of Beverley’s most famous and historic streets, which had one of the notable Bars at the western end of it.
In 1905, the Minster’s old high wall, seen here in the background, was demolished and replaced by a low wall using the original copings and bricks nearer to the church to enable a footpath to be constructed. The demolition was carried out by a local firm of builders, Thomas Stephenson & Sons, based in Minster Moorgate.
The photograph was taken sometime before 1905, as the high wall is still intact around the Minster, which dates it to early 1900.
