English: Christmas display in Lakeside Mall, Metarie, Louisiana, with Hurricane Katrina references.
The 2005 "Christmas Tiny Town" display contains references to post Hurricane Katrina life, such as debris and trashed refrigerators streetside and blue tarps on house roofs. This part of the yearly Christmas display is nickamed "Katrina Ridge". This is the second version; shortly after the display went up the Mall management made the artist take the Katrina references down as they had gotten some complaints. As they then got a vast amount more complaints about it being removed, it was put back up, although without the "X"s on the houses indicating they had been inspected for survivors or bodies which was included in the first version. However note that the military helicopter with rescued people on line flying overhead remains, although this was the single most critcized detail of the first version. |
