Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The courtyard is dominated by the Muzibu-Azaala-Mpanga at its center, is enclosed by a reed fence, and ringed by many small houses which were built for the widows of the Kabakas and for other ritual purposes. Kabaka Mutesa I had eighty-four wives and over one hundred children; these houses were built to house some of his favorite wives and their female matrilineal descendants. Later Kabakas continued the tradition, and their wives lived here as well. Today, they are mainly occupied by female descendants of the wives of the Kabakas, who each live in them around two months out of the year. Certain of these women, however, live at the site year-round.
