English: Built circa 1800, this Greek Revival-style house was built by Squire Roberts as a small one-story structure, and was later owned by the Karrick family beginning in 1856, whom enlarged the house to its present size. In 1860, the patriarch of the family, James Karrick, passed away, leaving the house in the hands of his wife, Harriet Skinner Karrick, as well as their children. The house was occupied by Confederate soldiers during the Battle of Perryville in 1862, with the officers sleeping in the house and soldiers on the grounds around the house. The Karrick family soon fled from the as a battle broke out in the town, returning to find the house ransacked. The house then became the Medical Headquarters for the Union army in Perryville as the task of tending to the wounded and dying became the top priority, lasting for several months after the battle. In 1882, the house was sold to William Huston Parks, whom married one of the Karrick daughters, and remained in the family until at least 1969. The red brick house features a main wing with a side gable roof five bays wide, with nine-over-six double-hung windows, and a front door at the first floor of the central bay with decorative sidelights and a decorative transom, as well as pilasters flanking the door. The house also features a rear ell with a rear gable, and a shed-roofed south wing with six-over-six windows facing the front. To the rear of the house is a large stone-walled cave entrance that provides an ample spring-fed water supply, as well as multiple outbuildings, which served multiple functions during the house’s history. The house is a contributing structure in the Perryville Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
