| Description |
English: This preparation of Kajli Machher Jhal is unique to the Sylhet region of Bengal. It is a special preparation because of the fact that no frying of the fish or other steps are needed before putting it to the final step of sauté.
Ailia coila, the scientific name of this flat shaped riverine fish of Bengal, is extremely popular amongst the Bengalis for its exquisite taste goes by the local name of Kajli or Kajuli or even Kajuri. The flat shape, reminiscent of a leaf has also given it the evocative name Banspata Maach or bamboo-leaf fish.
