Title |
KENT-7F9736. Medieval finger-ring (front). |
||
Description |
English: Gold finger-ring, considerably distorted, the bezel formed of an elaborate quatrefoil, the centre of which is decorated with a roughly scallop-shaped ornament. The centre is keyed to take enamel, and a small part retains some white enamel. This central scallop is surrounded by an inscribed band which reads: * DUM VINO SPIRO in black-letter. The areas of the quatrefoil that obtrude from this design are decorated with random strokes. The bezel is supported by two dragon heads, one of which retains aong its snout a fragment of vivid, green enamel. A section of white enamel fills part of the groove which forms its neck. Scales intended to represent the bodies of the beast are roughly etched into the immediate parts of the hoop. |
