Summary

Description
English: *Object: So called "House of the Soviets" in Kaliningrad
  • Original description: The remains of the king's castle were demolished several decades ago to clear the way for this atrocity. This was to be the new government building. The building has been like this for over 15 years. Now archaelogical digs are going on right around the foundations of the 12th century castle. We saw a well from that time that was still functioning.
  • Comment by User:Kneiphof: The construction of so called "House of the Soviets" began in 1970 on the place where old castle of Königsberg stood before which was destroyed in late '60s due to idealogical reasons (it was considered to be "the symbol of Prussian militarism and fascism" by Soviet authority). House of the Soviets (Дом Советов) was planned to become the center of adminisration of Oblast Kaliningrad and city Kaliningrad itself. The works stopped in late '80 due to economical crisis. Now plans exist to complete House of the Soviets as an business centre.
